Segregation was a huge problem in America in the 1900s. Colored people were unable to sit in at certain restaurants, could not drink from white water fountains, had to sit on the back of the bus, and could not even talk to some whites. People were very racist and acted horribly on colored people. Colored people got beaten up by police, were not given fair hiring policies, and were not looked at by people as normal. This began the Civil Rights Movement.
Robert George Seale (Bobby) was born on October 21, 1963 in Dallas, Texas. Seale was one of three children moving to many different places in Texas when he was at a young age. Finally, he moved to Oakland, California for high school. Attending Oakland High he was not allowed to play any sports because of his color. Therefore he dropped out and went to the US Air force. After 3 years in the Air force he was kicked out and began his life as an American Civil rights activist. At age 25 in 1963, he attended Oakland City College joining the Afro-American Association where he later met Huey Newton. Both Newton and Seale did not like the way the AAA acted on their views so Huey and Seale began the Black Panthers in 1966.
The Black Panther Party for Self Defense became a major party in America. Seale and Newton created the views of the Black Panther Party in a ten point program. It stated their views and what they wanted to get equality. The Ten-Point program was based off of government. They wanted the government to step in and take charge of businesses, landlords, and anything that was unfairly distributed to colored people.
